We’ve since seen a couple of videos purportedly showing Grand Theft Auto V being played on the phone too, along with videos showing other titles running on mobile. Even Realme executive Xu Qi Chase posted a clip online showing Assassin’s Creed Rogue apparently running at 60fps on the new flagship phone. So is this actually legitimate? What’s happening here?

Well, the good news is that it doesn’t seem to be a case of games being streamed from a PC to a smartphone. Instead, all these videos appear to show an upcoming app called GameFusion, that lets you play PC games locally on your Android phone.

One of the lead developers behind the canceled Cassia app refuted a claim that their team was behind GameFusion, noting on Discord that it actually comes from the team behind the old EggNS emulator.

It’s legitimate, but you should still express caution

This news doesn’t fill us with confidence, as EggNS was a closed-source Nintendo Switch emulator. The team allegedly stole code from other Switch emulators when making EggNS. The app also required you to sign up with an email address and initially forced you to use specific controllers from the GameSir brand. The app later introduced a subscription option as well.

GameSir pointed to its affiliation with the EggNS team a couple of times this week, noting on Twitter that GameFusion was still in development and suggesting that it was part of its GameHub app.

For what it’s worth, I tried sideloading the current GameHub app, which doesn’t include GameFusion right now, on the Realme GT7 Pro. However, the app noted that I needed to connect a GameSir controller to proceed, leaving me unable to do anything else. Check out the machine-translated screenshot below. So don’t be surprised if you need a GameSir controller to use GameFusion when it’s eventually released.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen PC games being playable on an Android phone, though. Previous efforts include the since-abandoned Exagear app, and we’ve more recently seen the Winlator app emerge as the most user-friendly way to play PC games on your smartphone. The latter is effectively a collection of existing tools and apps wrapped up in a more intuitive interface and with a more streamlined installation process.

Nevertheless, it looks like this GameFusion app is legitimate, but GameSir and the development team’s previous practices suggest you might have to jump through a few hoops to use the app. We’ve asked the EggNS team and GameSir to confirm more details and will update the article when we get a response.

We’re still excited about the ability to play PC games on Snapdragon 8 Elite phones, though, be it via Winlator or the GameFusion app. Sure, you could just buy a Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally, but there’s something cool about seeing games like GTA V and other titles on a smartphone.
