If you see something strange in your neighborhood, you might want to let it linger a few moments before calling your local paranormal investigators because it could mean big money for you.

In what it’s calling “The Great Ghost Search,” home security company Ring, best known for its video doorbells and outdoor security cameras, has announced that it’s offering $100,000 for the best video captured by a Ring camera that shows a ghost sighting.

Even if you haven’t seen any ghosts around, you’re still in luck. The official contest rules say you can also upload a video of “ghosts in an unrealistic manner” using makeup, costumes, props, or whatever your heart desires.

You’ll also need to send a brief description (up to 100 words) of what’s happening in the video.

To ensure the video was captured with a Ring camera, you’ll need to submit your entry by logging in to your Ring account online.

Judges will score videos in four areas:

  • Visibility, or how clear the ghost is in the video
  • Uniqueness, or how much the footage or story surprises the judges
  • Entertainment value, or how glued to the footage the judges are and how amusing the footage is
  • Engagement, or how unique the ghost’s engagement with the Ring device is

It’s not just anyone doing the judging, either. Actor Finn Wolfhard, who has firsthand ghostly experience from the Netflix series Stranger Things plus films like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and It (the 2017 version of course) and professional ghost hunter Katrina Weidman, who has starred in TV shows Paranormal State and Paranormal Lockdown, will be a part of selecting the best video.

Authentic or not, if you’re considering sending in a video, you’d better act quickly. Ring is only considering the first 5,000 entries and only one winner will be chosen.
