Halide for iPhone 16 is out today with expanded Camera Control features that bring simplicity to the somewhat complex button. The makers of Halide emphasize a desire to make their app’s Camera Control features as simple and useful as tradition shutter buttons on dedicated cameras.
Halide Camera Control
Halide already supported Camera Control since the iPhone 16 launched. Users could assign the Camera Control to launch the app when clicked, and the Camera Control acted as a shutter button once the app was activated.
Starting today, Halide is gaining focus and exposure controls using the Camera Control button. Halide has also implemented a locked control feature that prevents accidental input from the new button’s swiping interface.
Some users might not want adjustments in Halide with specific manual settings, so our first ‘Locked’ Adjustment essentially ensures no setting is disturbed from accidental swipes. In Exposure, users can set an exposure bias 3× that of Apple’s (-/+ 6 EV vs 2), and Focus enables manual focus with the Camera Control, for a really nice, smooth manual focus experience on iPhone.
Take faster photos
Separately, Halide 2.17 improves shooting speed. The updated app can take photos the moment the button is pressed instead of when the button is released.
The quick snapping function works great with iPhone 16 Pro’s new 48MP ProRAW Zero Shutter Lag feature but also with our Process Zero — a natural way to get 12 MP images with minimal processing and no AI.
Download Halide 2.17 from the App Store to test drive the new Camera Control features. The makers of Halide have also released their in-depth review of the new iPhone 16 camera and Camera Control here.
